Description
After a handful of singles and two albums for 100% Silk, Octo Octa slides to Chicago’s Argot label for the Where Did You Go? 12″. The Brooklyn-based Michael Bouldry-Morrison has gradually moved from noisy, lo-fi house to more traditional forms of club music—”Give”, a track he released earlier this year, came labeled “features Raw Moans”, which feels fitting—and the dancefloor-focused Argot is a natural fit.
“Where Did You Go?” takes the signifiers of classic house—billowing chord changes, familiar, toned rhythms—and smears them across seven gauzy minutes. The smeared organ chords that drive the track are the sonic equivalent of fogging up the dancefloor’s windows: It’s impolite to study them too closely. You could tab this “deep house” if you were inclined; it’s more fun to just enjoy the steam.
